Scott Barolo, PhD
Director of PIBS

Scott became the Director of PIBS in 2015. He also is an Associate Professor in the Cell & Developmental Biology department. In addition to his role in PIBS recruitment and admissions, he oversees graduate training, curriculum, research rotations, and career development.

Michelle Melis
Academic and HR Coordinator

Michelle M. has been associated with PIBS from it’s first year in 1999. In that time, she has gained a broad range of experience working with graduate students from the time of admission through graduation. She now supports PIBS, PREP, and MEDPREP trainees.

Career & Professional Development Coordinator

Maggie Evans, PhD

Maggie develops and coordinates Career and Professional Development offerings for postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and postbac students in the Medical School. Maggie is also a University of Michigan PIBS alumna.

Anne Vojtek, PhD
Associate Director, PIBS

Anne is an Associate Director of the Program in Biomedical Sciences. She serves as head of the PIBS community “House A”. Anne is an Associate Professor of Biological Chemistry and research in her laboratory focuses on signal transduction mechanisms regulating cell growth and development. 

Shoba Subramanian, PhD
Director of Curriculum & Education

Shoba leads the Career and Professional Development initiatives in OGPS as well as curriculum development. Shoba holds a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University and completed her postdoctoral training at UCSF. She has a strong record in teaching, education innovation, and career guidance.

Catherine Garber

Marketing & Communications


Catherine manages the marketing and communication initiatives for the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. She is the driving force behind their websites, email communication, social media, and graphic design.
